Test your webcam

You have most likely blocked the camera here before. Click the camera or padlock icon at the left of the address bar, set the camera to Allow, then reload this page.

Only one program can use a camera at a time. Close Zoom, Teams, Skype, OBS, and any other browser tab with the camera open, then press Test my camera again. If the preview is black but the status says the camera is live, check that the physical privacy shutter is open.

Front and back switching is a phone and tablet feature. Desktop browsers usually expose every camera as a separate device instead, so use the Camera device list to change camera.

Check that the webcam is plugged in and, on a laptop, that the camera is not disabled by a function key or in your privacy settings. On Windows, look under Settings → Privacy → Camera. On macOS, look under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

It looks for the signs of a virtual camera: a device that names itself as one (OBS, ManyCam, DroidCam and similar), a feed whose frames are pixel-for-pixel identical and so cannot be coming from a real sensor, image dimensions no camera produces such as a square picture, and a mismatch between the size the camera claims and the size actually arriving. These are strong hints, not proof — a carefully configured virtual camera playing real video can pass every one of them, so a clear result should never be treated as evidence that a camera is genuine.
